At the PCT we have a team of health trainers working to help people improve their health and lifestyle.

The health trainers are not physical fitness instructors but are there to offer support and guidance. Health trainers come from a variety of backgrounds and are based out in the community, from Lupset to Upton and Castleford to Ryhill.

How do health trainers work?

Each health trainer works with local people on a one-to-one basis. They listen to what changes people want to make in their life and encourage them to set goals to achieve them. This could be supporting someone to stop smoking, improve their diet, help to reduce stress or to increase their exercise levels.

The health trainers work with people one hour a week for up to six weeks, but this is negotiable. They focus on encouragement rather than advice. You will soon be able to read how our health trainers have helped local people when we feature some client stories here.

What are the benefits?

Here are ten benefits to working with a health trainer:

  • time to talk;
  • personal support;
  • friendly;
  • advice and information;
  • encouragement;
  • a mentor;
  • local venues;
  • informal;
  • breaking down barriers to communication; and
  • achievable goals.
