Corporate governance
To complement the work we do to make sure we provide high standards of care, we have a Corporate Governance team.
This focuses on how we can meet national standards of conduct, accountability, probity and openness. For example, all NHS staff must:
- put the interests of patients first at all times;
- be honest and impartial when doing their job;
- guarantee value for money when spending public funds; and
- provide information about services to local people in a format that suits them and that they can access easily.
The Corporate Governance team makes sure that we meet the laws set by the government. They also keep an eye on the PCT Board and other decision-making committees to make sure they are working in regulatory frameworks.
The team also makes sure we work to the rules for conducting business, which are called standing orders and the detailed procedures and policies within standing financial instructions. Having good governance in place means that staff and the organisation itself are protected from the risk of fraud and other irregularities.
